The artist:
Michele Paternuosto arrives in Sabaudia and shows encaustic’s deep reds
underneath the austere arcades of Rationalism. As a child he attends the
studio of masters Nicola Rago and Angelo Fratipietro, both decorators
and restorers. This experience, which was halfway between art and
handicraft, gives him a strong manual ability and a refined taste for
the antique, a quality which in the ‘70s will lead him to experiment
with encaustic, that is painting with fire. Today, he is considered an
incredible talented master, one of the most interesting Italian artists
as regards the experimentation of both painting techniques and
materials.
